1. Monday: Pasar Malam SS2

It’s the first day of your trip and you are awestruck already with the beauty of the city. You’ve been to some major attractions and now it’s evening time and you just want to walk on local streets or markets and eat something traditional and delicious, also under some budget.

The only option suitable for you is Pasar Malam SS2. This market opens only on Mondays. The Pasar Malam SS2 is the largest night market in Petaling Jaya. This market is a big source for locals who don’t want to go to malls for almost a decade now.

The market is full of Malaysian and Chinese cuisine shops. The shops deliver some of the best, innovative and delicious cuisines one must try. Also, apart from food, you can find clothes, mobile covers, and souvenir shops there.

Some of the food ranges from 1-5 RM only and fills the stomach to the fullest. The market is famous for some traditional food like Apam Balik that costs 1 RM. These are both thin and crispy or soft and thick depending on you. There are various types of dim sums with different filling is available.

Other famous food are deep fried radish cake, Bakwa sandwiches that costs 4 RM and is served with filling of different types like chicken, mutton, pork, coconut jam etc. Also, the homemade buns are a must try as they are given different shapes and painted with food colors.

2. Tuesday: Pasar Malam Sri Petaling

Sri Petaling is a market which is heaven for people who loves food. This market opens only on Tuesdays. Various food stalls and trucks are lined up one after another serving mouth-watering delectable.

First you can roam and buy things like phone cases, stickers, shoes, clothes, souvenirs, fruits & vegetables and pets too (birds and rabbits). After and during this exhausting event, you can enjoy numerous variety of foods served up at very cheap prices with a favorable taste and love.

Some of the famous delicacies includes oyster omelette which is prepared right in front on a big pan and costs around 8 RM.

The market is famous for Taufufa which is a soya bean pudding. There are other varieties of Taufufa present too like pandan taufufa, corn taufufa etc. It costs 3 RM per container which is enough for a person.

Other famous foods which are must try are Hong-Kong styled waffles, sausages, leak dumplings, stinky Tofu, muah chee, puddings, pies and what not. All of these items cost no more than 8 RM at max.

3. Wednesday: Pasar Malam Taman Connaught

Once the longest market in Malaysia and most famous market of Kuala Lumpur, Pasar Malam Taman Connaught is a market located on a 2 km stretch of street with over 700 stalls and shops. The exploring can take up to 2 hours or even more if you go in detail and really do roam.

This market is a bit pricey as compared to other pasar malams but, this market offers large variety of stuffs apart from foods and cuisines. You can find clothing, accessories, household items, kitchen items, books, handbags, souvenirs, handicrafts etc. on the streets of this market.

Along with them the food will appear out of nowhere and will attract you and will help you to keep going on and explore the market. The market is famous for its unique and innovative ideas of food.

One of them is Cola Chicken. Many of you may have heard it for the first time but yes, you can find this dish in this market. A glass of Coca-Cola is filled half with the drink and other half is filled with fried chicken. You may right now be throwing up but it’s a cuisine you must try if visiting the market.

Other famous eatables in market are stinky tofu, crème brulee, egg tart, Japanese and Taiwanese pizza, laksa, satay and a lot more.

4. Thursday: Plaza Mont Kiara Fiesta Night Market

The carnival themed night market, Plaza Mont Kiara Fiesta Night Market is open only on Thursdays and also called Thursday fiesta as in 2010 it was open from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Now the timings have increased till 12:00 pm.

The market is gathered around a fountain courtyard, so it’s enjoyable in the night time to sit across and gaze at the crowd with a food in hand. The theme of this market follows the letter ‘F’ as you’ll find lots of food, flora, fruits, footwear, fabrics, fragrances, fictional books and fitness in the market.

This market can be covered in the morning also as it opens at 6:00 am and closes at 3:00 pm. It’s a famous morning market of Kuala Lumpur for Breakfast and Lunch.

But as you’ll be busy exploring other attractions in daytime, night time would be the best to roam in this market. The choice and type of food here is different and cheap as compared to other markets.

Some of the famous foods include asam laksa, mee jawa, tomyam and many more. It’s a normal market to roam and eat with less and young crowd.

It can take over 2.5 hours to complete the market exploration and during it you’ll find a lot to buy. Souvenirs, clothes, books, toys are in abundance here. Still the best role is played by the food stalls and shops serving Malaysian and Chinese delicacies.

Some of the best foods here are Polar Bear soft crème parlour, fried octopus balls, Japanese pancakes, kuih, Taiwanese egg burger and lot more.

The market also serves food but to a lesser crowd, hence the fare is cheap as compared to other markets. You can also buy other things as there are clothing shops, handicrafts, souvenirs present there.

Some famous foods to enjoy here are char kuey teow, BBQ Oyster, char kuey kak, Cheras Giant Pau, Nyonya Rice, UCO Cakes and more.
