Introduction

Kedarkantha peak that lies at an altitude of 3850 m is a beautiful ridge peak allowing you to experience the beauty of the place like never before. It is one of the most sought trek in India - especially when it comes to a snow trekking destination with an exceptional 360 degree view of the majestic mountain summits. You will be rewarded with mesmerizing view of the majestic peaks like swargarohini, banderpooch, black and Ranglana along with an experience of the remote villages of Garhwal Himalayas allowing you to gain insight into their lifestyle and culture. From December to April, it snows in this valley and is one of the few treks that is even accessible in winter, therefore making it a terrific trek in virgin snow. The drive to Kedarkantha is a remote route, however never fails to offer and exquisite and mind boggling drive. The route follows and passes through Mussoorie, Nowgaon, Purola, Mori to the final destination Naitwar. With the right amount of snow and access to a summit that stands tall at 12,500 ft - there is nothing in the world that can outcast that heavenly feeling. The beauty is unimaginable and is a bliss in winters. Nature’s bounty of flora and fauna, access to remote villages and experience the culture and lifestyle - it is one in a million feeling that can never be surpassed. The trip begins with a gradual climb to the base camp at 2800m. It is a beautiful drive from Dehradun to the remote village of Sankri. Apart from just the frantic ride, this valley acts as a host to some of the most popular and enchanting treks in the Indian Himalayas like Har-ki-Dun, Ruinsara Tal, Rupin Pass, Black peak etc. 0ne can also Indulge in an array of adventure activities like snow tubing, tree jummering, valley traverse, and skiing.

Itinerary

Day 1: Drive From Dehradun To Mori River Campsite

  • The journey begins early from Dehradun until you reach Mori River Campsite by evening. 
  • The last few turns of the final 22 kms will allow you to witness the Govind national park which is beautiful but has a bumpy ride line.
  • Spend the night in tents in Mori

Day 2: Drive Till Sankri And Trek To Juda Talab

  • Post breakfast we start our our drive to Sankri and trek towards juda talab
  • A gentle climb through Saud village where enroute you will visit a lot of local village women carrying wood and dried leaves for their cattle
  • Surrounded by the tall trees and mountain slopes is the perfect location of our campsite
  • Reach by afternoon and stay in camps

Day 3: Trek To Kedarkantha Meadow

  • Early morning breakfast and resume your trek through the pine and oak trees.
  • Reach the open field below the summit with an excellent view
  • The highlight of the trek is the mesmerising and unending view of the Himalayas and the green pastures
  • Overnight stay at the camp


Day 4: Climb The Kedarkantha Peak

  • This will be the long day as you would start very early after an amazing morning breakfast
  • Post breakfast and try to reach the top of the ridge by noon
  • The climb of over 2 hours is hectic but the hard work pays off and is very rewarding
  • Spend some time on the top and head back to the campsite. Have lunch and head towards Sankri
  • Drive till Mori river campsite and spend the night in tents at Mori

Day 5: Drive To Dehradun

  • Post breakfast drive back to Dehradun
  • Reach by evening
  • This concludes the end of the trip
